The Gap
sometimes it’s best
not to over think
when you don’t notice
the ocean taking you, sinking
because you like the way
the salty waters taste
for once I had no plan
or misguided expectations
it could be my awaited answer
but I’m not making that speculation
I’ll wash out with the tide
as curious as a lover
and take it laying down
skimming over the choppiness
and the crushing blow of waves
like a Delawarian sea-dude
half-robed and bearded
but even with the flow
of this moon-drawn pleasure
I have to be careful
of the disappearing sand
my four elements combine
making me uncharacteristically giddy
but the ocean has pockets
too deep for even
the most avid imagination
I should mind my step
before the water’s over my head
